You : You are not that old! wisdom teeth are sometimes extracted on much older adults.

Recovery time not only varies from patient to patient, but from tooth to tooth. Just because the tooth is partially erupted doesn't mean the roots aren't hooked, or that it won't be a difficult extraction. Many things can happen; teeth sometimes break, resulting in a more invasive procedure.

You will be sore for a few days, you might get some swelling, and you may feel like you have a sore throat and difficulty swallowing. These symptoms are all normal.

Your dentist/oral surgeon will prescribe the proper pain meds and advise you on post operative procedures in regards to minimizing discomfort.

If impacted, the procedure is a little more complicated and complete recovery might take a little longer. In either case, you should feel just fine in a two or so weeks.

2 to 4 weeks: The holes in your gums should be closed in 2 to 4 weeks.  By 4 to 6 weeks you should not really notice those spots much.  It will take months and months for the bone to fill in, but you have no reason to be concerned with that.

1-2 weeks depending : If you were premedicated with antibiotics it may take less than a week. If not, and depending on the surgical skill of the doctor, it could take 1-2 weeks. If it lasts longer than that it must be checked by your dentist.

Dentist: I would be curious as to the directions that your dentist gave you regarding these very things. Typically you keep the gauze in to  keep up with the bleeding. As the bleeding slows down you don't need to change the gauze as frequently. The numbness in your lower lips I assume is from the local anesthesia they used during the procedure and should wear off certainly by the end of the day.

Keep them clean: In order to keep your wisdom teeth out of trouble. Brush them very well, and most of us do need to swing our lower jaws right and left to be able to reach the outer surfaces of the top wisdom teeth. Some patients undergoing the removal of 4 impacted wisdom teeth rebound and continue with their normal activities as if they had not had surgery. Another patient may undergo a simple uncomplicated extraction of a single tooth and feel incapacitated for several days.  Plan on taking it easy for the first two to three days postop.
