i've been taking 20mg of melatonin, which i've been told is the highest safe dose you can take, and it helps me a lot. but is it bad for your liver?

No hepatotoxicity: There is no reported hepatotoxicity due to melatonin. In fact, studies in rodents have showed a protective effect of melatonin against hepatotoxity. i am a recovering alcoholic and need to know if i am over doing it with supplements. i take milk thistle, vitamins,oil of oregano, elderberry, vitamin c, graviola and melatonin at night to sleep. is this hard on liver?

: Yes, you do not all those supplements although I doubt those will hurt your liver but nobody can say for sure.
You can take multiple vitamins as supplement and melatonin if you use it as a sleep-aid.

why does tasimelteon elevate liver enzymes, and is it dangerous or more dangerous than melatonin?

Tasimelteon is: A melatonin receptor agonist. Actually restricted in the US except for those with impaired vision and possibly for jetlag, shift work etc. Tasimelteon is also metabolized in the liver which in the long term if overused can cause elevation in liver enzymes.  Some are more sensitive than others and this effect could occur on as little as 1-2 doses. Melatonin is more Natural so it can be used longen

just wondered if taking 2 benadryls and one 10mg of melatonin and 20mg of simvastatin is making me bloated when i sleep at night, heard my kidneys got better and so did my liver. i didnt used to bloat at night, used to go to the bathrm a lot at night?

Does it last long?: That is a great question. To figure out how long a drug or supplement will stay in your body, one needs to know the half life, which can be found online. The half life of melatonin is around 50 minutes. Drugs are usually eliminated after 4-5 times their half life. So most of the melatonin will be gone in 250 minutes, or 4.16 hours. You can divide 3 by 2 5 times to see how the amount decreases.

Sleep hygiene : Ambien (zolpidem)  is not recommended for long term use, you develop tolerance After a period of time. The best advise I can give is to develop what is called a sleep hygiene , I mean by that is going to bed every night @ the same time and waking up every morning @ the same time, avoid any stimulus including TV, computers, smart phones. I also recommend avoiding sleeping aids, like in your case Ambien (zolpidem).

It can: There are small studies for the use of topical melatonin for generalized hair loss and male pattern baldness.  Also, there is some asssociation with benefit for treating seborrheic dermatitis, which is an inflammatory skin condition.  Topical forms seem to have limited systemic - as in the blood stream - effects.  Hope this helps

i took 3mg of melatonin around 3am because i could not fall back to sleep. i than had an extreme nightmare. how can i get it out of my system faster?

Hydrate: Drinking more water may help bother wise just time. Be careful what you take. Should always discuss with doctor first.
