It can: There are small studies for the use of topical melatonin for generalized hair loss and male pattern baldness. Also, there is some asssociation with benefit for treating seborrheic dermatitis, which is an inflammatory skin condition. Topical forms seem to have limited systemic - as in the blood stream - effects. Hope this helps
