Not long: Clindamycin has a relatively short half life and has to be dosed multiple times daily. But its most worrisome potential adverse effect, c. Difficile colitis, can persist long after the Clindamycin is gone. Take probiotics (at least yogurt) while on this med and if you develop signififcant diarrhea or cramps, get checked out.

Half life: The half life of clindamycin is about 3 hours. So in 6 hours its is eliminated.
Side effects go away once the drug is stopped. If you have c.diff a diarrhea side effect you need to check in with the doctor again for stool c and s and possible new antibiotic treatment.  C.diff diarrhea smells bad and is frequency yellowish in color.  Other side effects should resolve with stopping the antibiotic

Clindamycin: The half-life of a drug is the time it takes for half of the drug in the body to be eliminated.  After 5 half lives, the drug is considered gone from the body.  The half life of Clindamycin is about 2.5 hours so normally it should take 12.5 hours after the last dose for all of the drug to be out of the body.

Should not be more: than 48 hours before all the Clindamycin activity in your body has dissipated/metabolized completely.  I do not think it even takes that long in healthy young individuals, but in older populations it can hang around longer, depending on the renal clearance (kidney function). Controversial: Prophylactic antiobiotic use after molar removal may be unnecessary for the otherwise healthy patient. There is a good study (author poeschl), comparing amox/clavulonate, clindamycin, and no antibiotics.No differences in the groups. It was concluded that antiobiotics after molar resection does not change the outcome with regard to less pain, wound healing, inflammatory changes, mouth openening.
