how long does the bruising and swelling last after rhinoplasty? i want to get rhinoplasty before my 20th anniversary party. how far in advance should i plan in order to be completely healed from all the swelling and bruising?

If : If you have any bruising after your rhinoplasty, it should resolve after about 2 weeks. The swelling takes a little longer and depends a lot on your skin thickness and what type of work is being done.

There's often residual nose swelling for up to about a yeat after surgery (often pretty subtle such that no one else would notice) so the more time you have to heal the better your nose should look.

Your surgeon should be able to give you a better idea of when you'll look healed enough to go to your party.

Rhinoplasty: Generally, bruising is gone after 10-14 days. Most swelling is gone in 3-4 weeks although the last bit of swelling may take several months to fully resolve.

Bruising: Mild bruising after injection of fillers usually resolves in 2-3 days.  Cover up with a green base can hide bruising until then.  Hope that helps.

No swelling nose job: You were fortunate and your surgeon's technique immaculate...  be happy you don't have the bruising that is typical of that procedure and hoping you have the result you desired.

: The color of a bruise is driven by the red cells leaking into the tissue. It does not matter what caused the bleeding into the tissue. Regular bruising is usually due to trauma, bruising in leukemia and other blood disorders can occur without any trauma.

Ask your surgeon: Smoking itself may not cause any problems but forceful  breathing through the nose can cause bleeding in the first few days(about one week) of your operation. Your doctor or his office assistant should be  called and notified/ for permission before you smoke.

The : The initial surgical recovery is usually similar to the original, but that depends a lot on what was done the first time and the approach used. The longer term swelling may take a bit longer to resolve compared with an initial rhinoplasty. If ear or rib cartilage is needed for the revision you may have some additional incisions to take care of as well.

You : You may want to take about a week off work if you have both a rhinoplasty and septoplasty at the same time. It's best to have the rhinoplasty concurrently as it's very common to use the cartilage harvested during a septoplasty to do some of the rhinoplasty work.

About one week.: Bruises/hematomas are caused by a ruptture of underlying blood vesses with subsequent release of blood contents.  This often happens during blood tests.  It takes about 7 days to clear this from the tissue.
