can touching lymph nodes make them swell? my 2 yo has large occipital nodes. it worries me b/c leukemia scare 6 months ago. it was mono. advice please

Lymph nodes: No touching the nodes will not make them swell. Most lymph node enlargement in a two year old  is due to upper respiratory infections caused by viruses.

i had mono at 19. since then i've had a string of swollen, hard lymph nodes under my right arm. twice in my life the largest one (.5cm) would swell, get a little red and tender for a few weeks, then calm again. i'm 58 now. should i be concerned?

: Have you discussed your concern with your PCP.  What are the  circumstances in which the lymph nodes swell.  Have you noticed swollen lymph nodes elsewhere on your body.  Are the nodes freely movable.  Please, discuss all of your concerns with your PCP.

Lymph nodes: All can swell including those areas you mentioned. After three weeks I would suggest another exam

Multiple symptoms: Your symptoms are common to numerous problems, and what's causing fever, headache, sore throat, etc.  and you may have more than one.  You need lab tests, for example, to test for Mono or Strep.  You need to be evaluated for bruxism and it's cause.  Please be examined by both Dentist and Physician.  You may not have a simple one stop shopping problem, but may have multiple coincident problems.

Monitoring Centers: Lymphatic system absorbs/carries things too big to go into the arteries/veins like bacteria eaten by white cells and digested food. Lymph nodes "taste" the lymph for anything bad  like bacteria/viruses/cancers, etc. When it detects a problem, it alerts the immune system and your body reacts.  They enlarge in response to the inflammation they create when they react.  They shrink when all is well.

Enlarged lymph node: Often 6 weeks or even a little more.  You should be followed by a physician until the lymph node has returned to normal.

Blood tests: There are a few diseases that leap out from blood tests.  Most of the time, however, blood tests don't tell the doctor much on their own.  These results fall into the second group, not very specific.

Lowish neuts, maybe?: Percentages don't give much useful information, and absolute white cells counts are of importance if and only if they're considerably away from the reference range, which is set so that a few percent of healthies fall outside. Many folks simply run low-neutrophils for a lifetime without a problem. How do you FEEL?

Talk to your doc: Labwork was ordered by somebody,  and should be interpreted by that person. A WBC of 6.2 is about right, but the RDW is high. The percentages make sense. However somebody got these labs for a reason, and the numbers may mean more to them, since they are looking for something specific. This is really the wrong forum to interpret lab values.

: Nearly two years is too long for lymph nodes to remain enlarged with a simple mono. It is imperative that you see your doctor and have in-person evaluation.
