A long time: As long as there are no infections and the stent graft doesn't move, stent grafts are known to last for the life of the patient. Problems arise when the graft moves or the "seal" is lost and the aneurysm sac starts to grow again. This is why monitoring of stent grafts with ct angiograms or ultrasounds is very important.

The results vary: Stent  replacement of aneurysms of the abdomen are increasing inuse..The results, barring immediate complications such as leak ( endleak) are comparable today with open surgical repair.

Get angiogram: If you have aortoiliac iliac disease an angiogram will help define the anatomy.stent are very effective in this location and are really the first line treatment.  At age 46 with family history , modification of diet and life style are very important. No smoking! Cardiac evaluation with stress test with be added to your work up almost certainly.

i've been taking coumadin for 14 yrs for mech aortic valve and have begun taking plavix after having had several double stent put in to open coranart artery my doctor said plavix would prevent clots. is there other options? i am 56?

: Plavix, an antiplatelet agent, is primarily effective against clot formation in arteries but is not enough protection against clot formation in venous blood or on artificial mechanical heart valves. Yet aspirin or plavix are indicated for clot prevention in coronary artery stents. I think your cardiologist would want you to take both Coumadin and plavix for best protection.
