Genital infection?: Women often have elevated WBC in urine because of contamination of the sample with genital fluids. WBC are common in vaginal fluids, for example, often (but not always) because of infections like yeast and STDs. Also, symptoms of yeast and STDs often are similar to UTI. If you are sexually active and not tested recently for gonorrhea and chlamydia, make sure your doctor knows and get tested.

UTIs: I often get a sense of a real UTI just from the history or story the patient tells me.  A female often knows very well that they have a UTI and these need treatment urgently. The pain or other symptoms can be nearly unbearable.  I treat frequently in this specific scenario without testing.

Inflammation: Well here we have a case of inflammation in the urinary tract, that WASN'T caused by an infection (as far as we can tell). There are other things that will do that, such as a kidney stone or a bladder stone. Sometimes medications (such as Bactrim) can do that. There are even viruses or other germs that might NOT show up on a culture. The key is how you are doing now? There should be follow up too.

Urine sample: Kidney infection is extension of bladder infections--both uti.  Kidney is more concerning, can get very sick, fast.  ? Treated for uti.  Could be stone, so if fever, chills, increased pain or worsens, needs to be seen.

Hematuria: Blood in the urine may be due to UTI, but suspect the CT was done to rule out an obvious stone or other obstruction to the urine flow. Sometimes may also be due to TB or to cancer, so that if it does not clear up with treatment of the UTI you may need further evaluation. Hope this helps and hope you are better soon.
