No: Severity of reaction is not determined by duration of treatment. Of course the longer you are on an antibiotic  the longer time you are susceptible to having a reaction.

Possibly: There is some correlation with time of therapy and tendon rupture.  Also long term antibiotics foster secondary overgrowth with yeast, clostridium difficile, etc. Must always assess potential benefits versus risks. Talk to your doctor. Good luck.

taking cipro for an ear infection while travelling.  today i was in the hot sun and  devolved a slightly red rash on my exposed chest and neck. issue?

Oral Cipro dangerous: Cipro and related fluoroquinilones have now been condemned by the FDA for use in simple infections such as otitis media, because of the significant risk of horrendous side effects, ranging from sudden death from a single dose (it may cause torsade de points), or months of agonizing pain associated with rupture of multiple tendons.  It was developed by the Army as a treatment for germ warfare.

i have had prostatitis (diagnosed)i was on cipro for 3 weeks prescribed by my primary then urologist put me on bactrim and its been 12 days and i felt no symptoms for4 days and then the symptoms came back worse do i need stronger meds or wait longer?

Mild jaundice: You may have a mild hepatitis from what you describe with some jaundice. Unless there is some 'dye staining' from your footware, you might be noticing a subtle yellowing of the skin. Sunlight may clear the palms and whites of your eyes from this mild yellow discoloration, explaining why only the soles of your feet are yellow. Pull down your eyelid and look there-if yellow, see an MD for hepatitis.

After 33 hours: The half-life of Cipro (ciprofloxacin) is about 4–6 hours in subjects with normal renal function is approximately 4 hours. Heavy daily caffeine intake, more than 500 - 600 mg per day may cause  side effects. Thus, 400 mg is a maximum daily dose = 4 caps. Take care.

Other side effects: dizziness, fainting, rapid pulse, sudden joint pain, bruising, swelling, diarrhea, confusion, seizure, yellow skin, dark urine, numbness, nausea, vomiting, sleep problems, blurred vision, and others.
