Best to dispose of med in proper manner.  Check w/ your doc, med given before may not be appropriate now - ie new treatments, changes in your body, new med interactions etc..

i have 3 ringworm spots that wont go away with otc cremes. my doc prescribed 7 days of ketoconazole tablets 200mg. i've seen doc on here say that's not good drug for this? i'm concerned by all the warnings on the labels for this drug. please advise!

Griseofulvin : I am surprised you are given Ketoconazol. It is the last one to use due to serious side effects even liver failure!  Depending on the site of the ringworm if OTC topical cremes do not work  then I would give Griseofulvin for 4 to 6 weeks. May treat it once.  There are other similar drugs too- their names escapes me!   Get a second opinion with a dermatologist. Best of luck and good health.

is topical ketoconazole creme safer than tablets? and is it a good choice for otc resistant tinea corporis? i'm not comfortable taking the tablets and 2 doses caused stomach cramps. please advice safest and best drug for this problem! thank you !!!

Safer=yes: Any drug applied to the skin surface will be less likely to trigger systemic side effects since it is not absorbed into the blood in significant amounts. The best drug is the one that works, which will need a proper trial to find in a resistant condition.

is nizoral (ketoconazole) better than neutrogena t/gel? i heard nizoral (ketoconazole) is good for hair re-growth too

Yes : Otc Nizoral (ketoconazole) helps seborreic derm in scalp better than t/gel. If you're losing hair as a result of the seb derm, Nizoral (ketoconazole) can help. However, it's not used for hair growth per se. If you have bad seb derm best to get an rx of Nizoral (ketoconazole) or anti fungal shampoo to avoid further hair loss. You can always supplement with otc antifungals (head and shoulders, selsen blue) on in btw days of rx therapy.

Many options: Here in the states, there are many anti-fungal options available w/o prescription. I don't know about brazil which is where your post listed you. Wash ; dry prior to applying your anti-fungal cream. Talk to your family doc if the rash doesn't go away after a week or so. Keep the area dry between applications of anti-fungal cream.

does using minoxdil(10%), nizoral (ketoconazole) shampoo and bionit tablets daily will help me in alopecia?

Yes: Minoxidil will help if used every day for years. Possibly the 10% is slightly more effective than 2%. Oral finasteride or dutasteride are more effective and are often used with minoxidil. The oral therapy is safe and cheap. Nizoral (ketoconazole) shampoo is good for dandruff but does not enable more hair. Bionit tablets of all kinds, including biotin, have NO effect on the amount of hair on your head.

May be ...: Hormonal birth control (birth control pills) may not work as well while you are using ketoconazole. To prevent pregnancy, use an extra form of birth control (eg, condoms). Both medications are metabolized through the liver.

Very unusual: Liver problems happen more when taking Nizoral (ketoconazole) for a full month.

Yes: The Nizoral is topical and there should not be any significant systemic absorption, even so, there is no interaction between those medicines. You can use both the same day.

Yes: I like this combination, although i usually tell patients to alternate them willy-nilly from day to day.
