Tunnel vision: Tunnel vision is a relatively specific symptom and usuall is a result of retinal disease.  It is not contagious such that other people pick it up from someone else.  But it can be hereditary as in retinitis pigmentosa or other retinal disorders, glaucoma or neurological disorders including tumors or physcological problems.  This is a serious complaint and needs prompt evaluation and therapy.

i'm looking to get my pilot license.would need physical before whole thing starts. m,35,physically sound,presc. eyewear,55#s overweight.would i fail?

Medical class III: I&#x27;m a private pilot as well as MD. You should easily pass FAA&#x27;s basic (Class III) exam, if your overweight problem doesn&#x27;t limit mobility. More fail because certain medications aren&#x27;t approved or they have an alcohol or other substance abuse problem rather than other health reasons. With new FAA regs soon to come, anyone with a valid driver&#x27;s license can self certify with no medical exam at all.

why do airline pilots get melanoma more frequently than the general public.  i have a hard time believing it is because they fly to sunny places & tan?

Cosmic rays: I do not know that pilots get melanoma more than general public, if they do, it may be due more frequent exposure to cosmic rays at high altitude.

23 m, echo report indicates "mitral valve myxomatus (aml) with no mr" can i workout with moderate weights? also, i was planning on becoming a pilot but if i get mr i can't. what's the probability of getting mr? how fast do valves degenerate?

Mitral valve: This is a common finding and considered normal.  Unless you have used certain weight reducing medications which may damage the valve. Discuss with your team.  And those in your area who deal with pilots.

good morning! i have developed some flew symptoms like post nasel drip, blocked nose and ears and slight body pains. no fever to speak of yet. i am a hems pilot with regular contact with paramedics... can i go get tested to enableme back at work?

i've had glue ear for a month since sinus surgery. eust tubes feel glued shut all the time. as a commercial pilot, i can't get them to clear. ent has tried prednisone, now he's on vacation. advice?!

Higher dose : Did the Prednisone work initially? If it did he may need a higher dose for a longer period of time. There could be a strong allergy component here too so over-the-counter nonsedating meds like Allegra (fexofenadine) may also be helpful. However before attempting any of this please run this by your general internal medicine doctor or your  ENT doctor, please. This is just a suggestion but not medical advice.

medical conditions that disqualify someone from piloting?

If your a danger: Think of things that would cause you to be a danger to yourself, your passengers, other pilots and the people on the ground. Seizure disorder, uncontrolled heart disease or hypertension, psychiatric conditions, etc. Check the faa's website or with a pilot group like the aopa. Also talk to your local ame.

are you allowed to be an airline pilot if you're an alcoholic?

Probably not allowed: Even if a pilot were to hide his alcoholism and get an airline job, it would be hard for him to work without breaking rules. Pilots' schedules are erratic, so an alcoholic would have to avoid drinking for long stretches of time (hard to do for an alcoholic). He can't have alcohol within 8 hours before flying, can't have alcohol while on duty, can't have alcohol level 0.04 or more if tested, etc...
