Rotator cuff: Your physical therapist or physician should be able to tell you when you have achieved the proper amount of strength return. You should be cleared by either of them before returning to high intensity sport.

Absolutely: If the blood pressure cuff is too small/tight around your arm it will cause a falsely elevated blood pressure. Conversely  if the cuff is to large and loose around the arm a falsely low blood pressure will result.

You must have had MRI.

Possible to heal with physiotherapy.

Shoulder surgery is very complicated.

dr took my bp with my arm up in the air instead of resting in the table, my bp came out high 140/90. the cuff was too little for my arm to the point it hurt. told her but she didn't paid attention. can it be the cause of that reading?

: Possibly. Too small a cuff can give you a spuriously high reading. Also the cuff should cover most of the upper arm and your elbow should be at the heart's level with the arm relaxed and supported on a surface and with your feet resting on the floor.

took husbands bp while he was reclined in bed. 160/120. 2 minutes later no change to position it was 130/75. he doesnt have high bp problems. faulty cuff? mine also higher than  at an office as well (im usually 115/75, but 128/84 with this cuff?

: If one is doubtful about the accuracy of their BP machine, it is a good idea to take it to their PCP's office and have it checked against the Standard BP machine used by the Physician. That said BP can fluctuate considerably, depending on many variables. Best to check with PCP for confirmation and appropriate action , if indicated.

I : I don't have all the answers, but i might be able to clarify a few things.

First of all, when a test is interpreted as showing a "tear", that implies damage that should be repaired.  But rotator cuff tendinopathy is more like greying and hair loss--expected changes with age. I find the term "partial tear" particularly misleading and even sinister. It's really just a signal change on MRI due to the changes in the tendon. You don't state your age and sport.  If you are a throwing athlete under 40 years of age, the process is different.

Second, and to reinforce the first point, not all of these tendon changes cause pain.  We know this from studies of patients with no shoulder pain and from studies of a patient's non-painful shoulder.

Third, like greying and hair loss we do know that rotator cuff tendinopathy is progressive.

Finally surgery does not cure the problem any more than hair plugs or rogain cures hair loss--it just patches things up for a bit.  The larger the defect, the quicker it will recur.  Surgery helps many people feel better, but you should not have surgery under the misconception that it is necessary.

37f, thin, very active 6x/wk, big family hx of high bp (but also obesity). bp is usually low at dr. i have extreme health anxiety. used home cuff at rest, anxious abt reading. 128/84, got really anxious, 136/92, deep breaths then 123/80. worrisome?

: It sounds like your blood pressure settled after some time. Would suggest not checking your blood pressure by yourself unless so requested by your doc, as it will only worsen your health related anxiety. The technique is also critical and if needed there are blood pressure monitoring devices that can be use at home.
