Ok to have cherries: The average amount of vitamin k in 3 oz of cherries, is less than 2 micrograms of vitamin k.  In contrast, green leafy vegetables, such as spinach have 444 micrograms in less than 2 oz.  So you should be able to have cherries without much impact on the Coumadin (warfarin) dose and inr levels.

Leafy green vegetable: Green vegetables, especially leafy salads, significant alcohol intake and vitamins containing vit k.

Lowers INR: If you eat spinach, turnip greens, broccoli, brussels sprouts, parsley or other leafy greens, this may counteract the effect of Coumadin (warfarin) on blood clotting, making your blood thicker and lowering your inr. If you like leafy greens, you should eat a consistent amount each week and titrate your Coumadin (warfarin) dosage based on that.

Can just stop: Normally, patients are instructed to just stop.  The effects of Coumadin (warfarin) then "wash out" of the system over about 4 days or so restoring normal blood clotting in most patients.  If quick reversal is necessary for a surgery or significant bleeding vitamin k (oral or iv) can be used.  Special precautions are used in individuals at high risk for clotting who should not be blood thinners.

Yes but: As long as there is a legitimate reason to stop warfarin it is ok to return to a healthy diet.

Impossible to say: It would be impossible to say because of the many intricate effects of foods and beverages on coumadin (warfarin). I recommend you let your prescribing doctor know that you are fasting. I am sure your doctor will want you to get your inr checked right after the fast (and maybe before.).

Yes, they can: Avacado and oregano both have vitamin k and can alter inr levels.  If you take the same amount daily, the Coumadin dose will be adjusted around this. Don't make any sudden diet changes, especially with an artificial heart valve.

Benecol and warfarin: Benecol and warfarin should not have any significant interactions. However, you are on high risk medications in terms of drug-drug interactions with warfarin (esp flecainide). Always discuss with your healthcare provider when you start any new non-prescription ingredients (incl herbal teas, vitamins, etc) and any changes with your prescription medications.

Balance: The antidote for Coumadin (warfarin) is vitamin k which is in a lot of foods, but most heavily in dark green leafy vegetables. My advice to my patients typically is to eat a balanced diet. Do not work hard to avoid or eat extra of these items, just eat a balanced diet with some vegetables every day and then work with your anticoagulation clinic or your physician to titrate your dose to your diet.
