i tore the tendon in my foot by twisting it the wrong way and falling. i am resting it but i felt a pop when i moved it a bit it burns is this okay?

No it's not okay: You should have it checked out. Ice, and elevation until you are able to have it looked at.  (Ice on and off area every 25minutes) don't freeze the skin.

Doctor can examine: A person who has on leg newly swell up, but has no new reason for it, should be evaluated by her doctor or the ER. Treatment depends on the amount of swelling, how fast it is increasing, and the actual cause swelling. New swelling in only one leg may mean a blood clot in that leg, which can be fatal. That is why ER evaluation is important. Recent injury makes it more easy to get a blood clot.

See a doctor: How do you know you tore it? If you did didn't the doctor offer a treatment. 
Usually, a torn tendon is either primarily fixed by suturing it together or wrapping in a special graft like material. (there are other repair methods.) some tendons a doctor may not repair i.E tibialis anterior. It all depends on your age, activity level, length of time that has passed. But you should see a podiatrist.

Torn tendon: First, get under the care of an orthopedic surgeon, if you haven't done so, for advice and follow-up. You want to avoid further damage and chronic problems. Find out about limitations on your activities. Do you need a brace? Tylenol and/or ibuprofen or naproxen can relieve pain and inflammation. Eventual physical therapy must be sanctioned and prescribed by the orthopedic surgeon.

Many ways: It really depends on which tendon, and how bad the tear is. Sometimes, the 2 ends can be sewn together, other times the tendon can be shredded and the surgeon must find an alternative.  There are many options, but it all depends on which tendon we are talking about.

You can't: There is no way you can tell. If you have concerns, you should contact your surgeon to evaluate the ankle. Meanwhile, a good rule of thumb is "if it hurts, don't do it!" follow your post-op instructions and get the ankle checked.

Ankle Sprain: Well you have suffered one of the most common foot and ankle injuries. Certainly you may have some tendon/ligament injury. In addition if the pain is localized and sharp on the outside of the foot, you must have an X-ray taken because there are many other injuries that could occur, on could be a fracture of the base of the 5ht metatarsal called an avulsion fracture (This is quite common) Good Luck

See orthoped foot MD: Your symptoms sound like you need a tendon repair, if you cannot control your foot effectively.  You should see a foot specialist.
