i was diagnosed with dermotagraphia which causes my skin to become very itchy for long periods of time and whenever i scratch my skin breaks out into hives. my doctor prescribed that i take zyrtec every day. will this cause negative side effects?

: Zyrtec shouldn't have any important side effects. The cause of dermatograhia is vary elusive. I usually refer such patients to an allergist for evaluation,treatment &amp; follow-up.

i am taking penicillin and sudafed but my head is banging, can i also take ibuprofen?

Accepted Answer

No contraindication: All three medications can be used together, assuming you don't have an individual reason for not using anyone of the the three.  Remember ibuprofen can affect your stomach, so if you decide to use it, consider taking it with food.  Also if your pain isn't resolving or is getting progressively worse through all the medications, please consider seeing your doctor again.

penicillin-resistant staph infection in eyes spread through head. single antibiotics have failed. what would be the best antibiotic cocktail to take?

Follow directions: If you truly have a  resistant staph infection you probably need IV antibiotics and at very least IV vancomycin should work.  Is an infectious disease specialist involved?  Have cultures with antibiotic susceptibilities been done?

i have fatigue, blotchy red skin, aching body, rash, and the start of a fever after taking injected penicillin. what should be my concerns, and how long will it take for this to go away?

Herxheimer reaction?: Depends in part on reason for penicillin. The most common need for PCN by injection is syphilis. If so, you may be having a Jarisch-Herxheimer reaction (named for the docs who first described it). Billions of dying syphilis bacteria release toxins. It means the PCN is working and you’ll be cured. It will clear up in 1-2 days. Ibuprofen can help.  Contact doc or clinic if uncertain.

my husband has been on penicillin since then he is getting terrible headache starting in one nostril moving into the head he takes strong pain killers immediately a nasal spray and usually a shower. this helps but happens at last 3 x a day. ?

Sinus pain : It sounds like he needs to see a doctor in person. Severe headaches may be a complication of sinus infection.  With severe headaches in the setting of sinus or  nasal  infection, a CT may be needed

Pathergy: What you are describing sounds like a other guy reaction.  Treatment will depend on the specific appearance to confirm this diagnosis and any other symptoms you may have.  I would recommend you see your doctor to start an evaluation.

Change cream and/or: Simply change the shaving cream and/or use an electric razor may help. Also, add some skin moisturizer immediately after shaving can help. Minimize/avoid aftershave. If persistent, consult doc. Good luck.

Skin care: Make sure he is using a good shaving gel or cream to protect the skin, and moisturize after shaving.

Accepted Answer

Washing: Be sure to take your baths at the end of the day.  Avoid baths/showers before going to work as this would reduce the skin barriers to the dust or toxins on the job.  Wear long sleeved shirts and try to cover as much of your skin as you can. Otc steroid creams to reduce inflammation/rashes when they occur.  If these fail you may have to seek a new job away from the exposure.

Hand eczema: You may have hand eczema that can be extremely uncomfortable and debilitating at times.  Please see a dermatologist for proper diagnosis and treament.  Other things to rule out could be chronic allergic dermatitis and psoriasis.
