how to reduce or stop hot flashes and excessive sweating from menopause but without hrt because i'm breast cancer survivor?

Damiana, menopause: Damiana has been widely used, and is reportedly useful for a number of conditions, including imbalanced female hormones.  Many women have reported reduction in night sweats and vaginal dryness associated with menopause.  It is best taken as a tincture.   Black Cohosh is another consideration, but use should be limited to short periods of time due to the potential for liver damage.

i am a 41 year old woman. i had a full hysterectomy in my early 30's. i have been able to stay of hrt but lately my moods, hot flashes etc. are out of controll. do i need to consider hrt?

Yes: Assuming your ovaries were removed at the time of the hysterectomy, i would encourage you to try estrogen replacement  therapy.  You are too young to be without estrogen. No estrogen can  cause bone and vaginal problems in addition to the symptoms you describe.

Unlikely: No pills can replace the natural rhythm of the body. While  hrt can raise your level back to normal, it cannot "adjust" quickly so it's possible some symptoms can remain.

Merits evaluation.: If your symptoms persist, they merit a careful evaluation, including taking your history, examining you and performing routine and special blood tests.  Hormonal and neuroendocrine causes should be considered in trying to determine the underlying problem and deciding upon the proper treatment.

i started taking angeliq (estradiol and drospirenone) (hrt) a few days ago. my hot flashes immediately started getting worse! should i wait to see what happens or stop using it?

Call your GYN: They should not get worse, it may take 2 weeks to see some results but if it is working should have less flashes by 2 weeks and should be much better in 1 month.

If you are really: In need, consider anticoagulation and low, dose estrogen via patch to bypass the liver where the clotting proteins are made.

Should consider HRT: Your symptoms are very common for postmenopausal women who are not taking supplemental estrogen.  Most of your symptoms will likely improve if you resume your hrt.  The urine leakage is the one symptom that may not improve with hrt alone - you should try kegel exercises (60 to 80 each day for 6 to 8 weeks). If the leakage persists you should see your gynecologist or a urologist.

i have tried prescription hrt for perimenopausal symptoms ( hot flashes, insomnia, fluid retention) with no relief. now i'm trying estroven.  ??

Another option: There are certain SSRI medications that can help with hot flashes other than estrogen products. Estroven is another form of estrogen that may or may not be effective if the other estrogen products failed. Talk to your MD about this option.
