Dental abcess: If the abcess is from a tooth, you have two choices;
1) you can perform a root canal on yourself or, 
2) you can pull the offending tooth

i do not recommend either option ;-).

Call your dentist: Try to have your appointment moved up or at least be put on antibiotics to help control the infection.

: I can offer you the following.  If you suspect that you have an abscess of dental origin, you most likely would have pain coming from a compromised tooth or gum.  The area would swollen.  I would see a Doctor of Dental Medicine.  An exam and X-ray(s) would be taken.  Most likely the practitioner would write out an Rx. for an antibiotic.  The cost for exam and X-ray-$150. RCT would cost-$1200-2000.

Yup: The abscess did not go away, just the symptom. You will need to see a local dentist to determine the cause of the abscess... Only then can treatment be rendered. It will return without care.

Dr : Dr zweig gave you some good advice. Was the root canal started? You did not clarify in your post. The dead nerve tissue needs to be removed to help the antibiotics work.

It may be necessary to use a different antibiotic if you are not getting better. Call your dentist for an evaluation.

The antibiotics will only be a temporary solution.
A tooth abscess  is normally treated with a root canal or extraction and possibly in conjunction with

An advanced dental abcess may require a hospital visit.  You need to call a couple of dental offices in your area to get idea. Dental abcesses can be deadly - please seek care quickly.
