i have high blood pressure and i take chronic meds for it. after i sit in my hot bath tub and come out i am always hot and dizzy where i need to sit down. is my hypertension the cause of this occurrence ?

: A hot tub could cause dilatation of your arteries and low blood pressure especially if you are not well hydrated. While hypertension(uncontrolled) or medications used for blood pressure control could be the cause, prolonged exposure to hot water during warm weather is  more likely. It is important that you limit the time you spend in the hot tub and see your doctor to look into this.

when i get hot i swell up , it this a sign of high blood pressure.?

Don't think so...: "swelling up" as in the fingers, hands, feet, and lower legs becoming fuller in hot weather is usually due to more blood flow to the hands and feet. This is called vasodilation, and occurs when a person is hot. His body sends more blood flow to his skin (including the hands and feet) because that helps cool his body down. It is not considered a sign of high blood pressure.

can someone age 56 get high blood pressure temporarily from eating hot sauce?

Accepted Answer

No: The blood pressure may have gone up if the hot sauce was really hot but hypertension is a diagnosis over time and is not diagnosed on an acute event.  If there is a concern, see if you can take blood pressures over a few weeks with a bought or borrowed cuff and if consistently over 140 on the top number or 90 on the bottom number, see a pcp and get checked out!

Not "cause": In reality we do not KNOW the true cause of high blood pressure. We do know many things that will drive it up in a predisposed individual. Considering about 30% of population has HTN, it is fairly common. Smoking and/or any act that stresses the body or mind can drive BP up in someone wo already has HTN or is genetically "ripe" to develop  HTN

NO: You are fine. Relax. This is normal BP and Pulse. There is normal range of BP from 90/60 to 140/85. and Pulse varies from 60 to 100.

High BP: Yes. There are so many 49 years old people have high BP pressure. Do you have any specific question? If BP is mildly increased you have to try diet and exercise for 3-6 months. If no improvement then you need medical therapy. If it is moderate to severely increased then you need to start medical therapy along with diet and exercise.

Not directly: Carbonated beverages have been blamed for many health issues.  However, there is no known direct cause and effect relationship between them and high blood pressure.  Having said that, excessive intake will likely lead to weight gain and obesity increases your risk of hypertension and cardiovascular diseases.

No: A person generally cannot feel her blood pressure. For example, a person can have a typical blood pressure of 100/55, 110/65, 120/75, 130/85, or 140/95. There are people walking around with each of these pressures, and they don't feel differently from one another merely because of the pressure. The pressures don't increase or decrease hunger.

Yes: As long as its well controlled and no signigicant exercise induced hypertension is present. This assumes a thorough cardiovascular workup was done at the time of its diagnosis.

Yes: Acute rise in blood pressure especially severe may result in visual disturbance. Chronic uncontrolled high blood pressure may also cause visual changes.
