3 days ago edge of kitchen cabinet hit side of head when someone was trying to close it. small bump and little red spot. no other symptoms. how long for the red spot to go away? thank you?

: If the spot was from some bleeding under the skin it usually takes a week or so for resolution of the blood breakdown products.

Yes: Yes, there is a possibility of epidural hematoma. However, the hematoma will likely be small if it is there at all, and also likely they will do nothing for it. No harm getting checked out though if you're worried.

Not normal: You might have stunned or damaged the nerves there. Worse, you might have a concussion. Please see your doctor as soon as possible.

Not likely: I would not expect a foam dodgeball to cause brain damage. If he has had a concussion it should be apparent and he should show some signs of impaired thinking or memory and pain. Usually following head trauma we watch for a significant change in personality or demeanor in the next 24 hours. If he has to change in his mood or an increase in pain then see the emergency room.

Head Injury: Have him seen. The forehead injury by itself does not sound concerning but now the appearance of bruising on the side of his head and behind his ear makes it more serious. Bruising behind his ear may indicate a skull fracture. He would best be seen in the ER. All the best.

: Primary elements of a concussion include loss of consciousness of some duration, alteration is stability/motor skills, memory or thinking change among others. The symptoms cited do not suggest the type of injury that would warrant an emergency room visit. You may want to contact your personal doc &amp; discuss this &amp; what to look for in case things change &amp; you need to go in.

Injury to head : Some of the blood vessels speclly in the temples in our heads are very close to the skull Therefore susceptible to minor trauma to the head. Persistent headaches, mental status changes, drowsiness are all worrisome signs. Please go to the ER if you are having continued headaches, nausea  blurred vision, drowsiness or any other progressive symptoms. An  bleeding inside the head must be ruled out
