after running a week ago, i am experiencing discomfort in my right hip. it's not pain just discomfort. will it go away on its own?

Possibly: Running causes normal wear and tear of joints of hip and legs. Ibuprofen may help alleviate discomfort. Definitely resting the hip (not running) for a few weeks may help. If not, see a physician for x-ray.

Possibly Bursitis: It's possible you have developed a greater trochanteric bursitis.  If it persists definitely see your PCP or orthopeadist.

Hip pain: Without knowing the cause of your hip pain it's impossible to give advice. Is it arthritic, positional, traumatic, neurologic, etc. You should see an Orthopedic Surgeon for differential diagnosis, then appropriate treatment can be recommended.

47 f. casual runner , about 6-9 miles a week of  running. freq. experience plantar fasciitis and hip pains after running. why and what can be done?

Running: Are you running on pavement or grass?  Are your footwear and running technique adequate? If so,I think you and your feet and hips would be better off with a different type of aerobic exercise like cycling,swimming,walking. You'd probably avoid hip and knee damage in the future years, also. In my opinion humans are built for walking and not running long distances.

Ask your Primary Care Provider if a n MRI is indicated!

If you try the: RICE (rest, ice, compression, elevation) for your joint and take some ibuprofen/ tylenol around the clock for 24 hours, along with topical ointment or massage therapy, and things are not improved, then you may need to do further stretching for 24-48 hours.  If it continues to hurt around the "hip" area, it may be inside the belly where the problem lies.    Go see a healthcare provider then.

See a DO (osteopath): You didn't state in your history how this all happened, but you should get a second opinion from an osteopathic dr, who can evaluate you, do an osteopathic examination of your head, neck, spine, hip, pelvis, sacrum and lower/upper extremities to see how your trauma may have impacted your soft tissues, that occasionally are responding by the 'feeling funny, pulling sensation'. S/he can treat you 2.

See ortho and neuro: Are you talking about iliac crest or greater trochanter. Of hip joint. In either case you will need to see those specialists to find out the cause.

Stretch ; strength: Hip pointer can take a long time to heal. You should focus on stretching and strengthening program and anticipate resolution.
