Urinalysis: Odors in urine are almost always caused by: Diabetes, Infection, Dehydration or Food Intake. Have a Urinalysis test to determine if there is any abnormalities that need treating. If not, don't worry. Drink lots of water to keep from being dehydrated and take note of what you eat. (It may be that you recognize a food or vegetable that makes your urine specifically minty)

High blood pressure over long periods of time increases the risks for Heart attacks, stroke, and kidney disease as it tends to cause damage to the blood vessels.  Though it raises the probability that one or more of these things might occur, no one can predict with certainty exactly when or if they will occur in an individual case.  I'd encourage him to have it checked
