i hear high pitch ringing in left ear, only when it is all quiet - before sleep. what could that be? thank you.

Tinnitus: Tinnitus is a sound originating in the inner ear or the brain itself. When it comes on suddenly,is intense and associated with hearing loss or vertigo, evaluation by an Otolaryngologist is advisable to look for a serious cause like a tumor(acoustic neuroma). However most cases are not serious but are a nuisance and may be permanent. Occasionally ear wax or loud noise exposure is a cause.

Have it evaluated: Unilateral sudden changes in hearing can be seriuos and should be evaluated before complete hearing loss.

Possible: Unusual for viral illness to cause unilateral ear ringing (tinnitus), but some of the meds taken for a cold more often can cause tinnitus (eg NSAIDS or antibiotics).  Even excessive earwax and eardrum irritation can result in ringing.There are many other potential causes, which warrants discussion with a physician.  Rarely, unilateral tinnitus can be due to tumor or blood vessel problem.

Tinnitus : Yes this is tinnitus and needs to be checked by ent.  Often tinnitus goes along with hearing loss or nerve damage.  Rarely, even certain tumors can cause this.  Usually tinnitus is not serious.

Otitis media: It may be that this is related to middle ear congestion and trying a decongestant would be beneficial. Use Pseudoephedrine or oxymetozline nasal spray and see if this does not resolve the problem. If not, go and get examined by a doctor.

: This is tinnitus &amp; it may be fleeting or may be persistent. It could be from wax buildup in the ear canal or.be due to inner ear causes, although vertigo often accompanies.these.  If it persists have a physician examine your ear with an otoscope and then advise you. You may possibly be referred to an ENT specialist.

You are describing: the response of the ear to a noxious injury LOUD SOUNDS are the most common (eg a gunshot etc) I suppose intense cold could damage as well but you have to check this with
an Audiologist!!  Ask your Primary Care Provider for a referral!

ENT doctor: You should see an ear nose throat specialist doctor for this problem. They would know best.

since 6am yesterday it is as if my left ear is underwater, i can't hear right, it's painful, went numb & part of left face, high pitch noises help?

Face numb,ear pain: May be beginning of Bells palsy from Lyme disease or shingles ( herpes-Ramsey Hunt syndrome- need acyclovir) or other rarely like MS, acoustic neuroma,vascular issues unlikely at your age. F/U with doctor/ENT/ urgent care.
