Possible: Unusual for viral illness to cause unilateral ear ringing (tinnitus), but some of the meds taken for a cold more often can cause tinnitus (eg NSAIDS or antibiotics). Even excessive earwax and eardrum irritation can result in ringing. There are many other potential causes, which warrants discussion with a physician. Rarely, unilateral tinnitus can be due to tumor or blood vessel problem.
