Unlikely to happen: HSV passed at birth can cause brain damage from a devastating encephalitis.In a milder case, if caught &amp; treated early, a localized skin eruption would be identified and treated. It is not going to hang around for 10 years before causing some problem.Oral HSV/cold sores can be acquired in childhood from contaminated fingers. Genital HSV in later childhood is sexual abuse until proven otherwise

It helps ....: While anti-bacterial hand sanitizer doesn't kill viruses, using it will help protect you from becoming infected.  Alcohol based products may be especially helpful as alcohol can destabilize a viral cell membrane. Disinfectant sprays would have limited use for this purpose. Good wishes:)

i get mixed information. once someone contracted herpes simplex 1(cold sore virus) when will their first sore appear? will 2 weeks with no sore mean they're in the clear?

: Many HSV1 infections never cause any outbreaks or other symptoms. When symptoms do occur, usually they begin 2-5 days after exposure, although on rare occasions it make take up to 3 weeks. (These data are for genital herpes. Most likely it's similar for HSV1 oral infection.)

Very unlikely. Yes.: If a person's first HSV-1 infection was on her lips, and she developed (and continues to have) a good level of protective antibodies to HSV-1, then she should not be able to get a new HSV-1 infection elsewhere on her body. She can get an HSV-2 infection elsewhere, if he has never had HSV-2. However, life is not 100% predictable, so nature might seem to "break the rules" sometimes.

Maybe: The herpes family of viruses are very common. Some people will get outbreaks, others who are exposed may never have an outbreak, and only with a blood test will find out they were ever exposed.

For those who have outbreaks, they can release the virus before a sore is present, either oral or genital sores.

For life.: It's not as bad as it sounds. The first episode is the worst. Recurrences become less and less symptomatic, and less frequent until finally it stops . There is usually an interval of months, or years between attacks. 
Are you a health care worker? 
It can defiinitely be transmitted to other areas but for some reason isn't commonly. Good Idea to cover it while you have it with a band aid.

2 options: Your options depend upon what's happened thus far. If you already left your prescription at your pharmacy and lost the medications, just go back to pharmacy for early refill (although insurance may not pay). If you lost actual prescription, call doctor's office for new one. Since acyclovir isn't a controlled substance, I don't foresee an issue. Many docs use electronic prescribing so can't lose it

Herpes 1 and 2: the majority of Genital Herpes is Type 2 however about a third of genital herpes
is t ype 1 wich usually occurs on the face and is know as a 'cold sore' they are close cousins!
Besides using a condom to prevent spread
of genital herpes, there are a number of antriviral medications that decrease spread and can shorten an outbreak. See your physician for a prescription
