Possibly swelling: This may be due to postoperative swelling around the base of the penis and in the scrotum and should resolve with time. Have never seen this be a long term problem. As always, check with the surgeon who did the operation if it persists.

Some of the: Blood tracks down by gravity from the groin incision to the skin overlying the penis.  Just like you can get discoloration under the eyes, when the injury is on your forehead.  It will resolve with time.  Ask your surgeon for specific details on how long to expect this to persist.

No: Operations for inguinal hernia repair have no effect on penis size unless there is a tragic complication. There is no reliable way to change your penis size for better or worse. The most common cause of perceived change in penis size is weight gain or loss. For each 10lb fat gain your penis can appear to be 1/2 inch shorter. For each 10lb loss you can gain an apparent 1/2 inch.

i've been seeing doctors for almost 2yrs trying to a hernia operation. it's now strangulated..my penis retracted & i cant pass gas or poop. help me please.

Strangulated hernia: Incarcerated hernia refers to one that won't go back or return to normal. Strangulated means lack of blood supply. Either way, you need to get it repaired now as it's no longer an elective operation but rather an emergent one. So go to ER now - have someone take you. Do not wait to see if it will resolve. This is not a condition for online care. You can die if you wait . . .

Surgical swelling: The varicocele repair is associated with soft tissue swelling that may make your penis appear smaller. Do not despair. Once the swelling goes down, everything will be back to normal within a couple of weeks.

hello, i currently need double hernia surgery for the past 2 years. i have developed lesions on base of penis, one on penis, and some in pubic area. can hernias cause this? havent had a new partner in 15 years. please help?

Sensory nerve injury: There are small sensory nerves that run in the area of the inguinal hernia repair.  These nerves are sometimes cut during surgery or may be irritated by scar tissue or mesh after surgery.  If small branches are damaged, they may regenerate after surgery and you may regain sensation up to one year after the surgery.  Inner thigh and scrotal numbness are fairly common but penile numbness is rare.

Normal: They may also get black and blue. Should be almost gone by two weeks. Check with your surgeon to be sure.
