Yes: This is referred pain.  This is especially true if the omentum (fatty apron inside you abdomen) protrudes thru the hernia opening.

Usually, yes: In most cases, yes, a CT would rule those types of hernias out.  Sometimes you can be tricked when laying flat, but if your astute radiologist knows to look for hernias, he/she should be able to pick them up if present.  Another method for imaging would be ultrasound, and of course...clinical exam.

Yes: But the hernia may interfere.  You might consider having it looked at before you get pregnant.  Some hernias are of no consequence, others should be fixed before you conceive.

Incisional hernia: Incisional hernias can occur along the entire length of a incision - much like a zipper that gradually breaks down along its entire length once a tooth if broken.  See your surgeon to be sure.

i think i have a big hernia on my left lower abdomen since november 2018. i am afraid my bowel will die and become necrotic. what are signs and symptoms of necrotic bowel?

If necrotic pain sev: If bowel is necrotic you will not bear the pain. Stay home now and keep consulting on here :)

boyfriend has 1mm hernia in lower right abdomen from appendectomy. can he do sit-ups/other ab exercises or will it make it worse?

No strenuous activit: An incisional hernia needs to be repaired. Strenuous activity and exercise can worsen the problem. It can cause bowel to protrude through the hernia defect and get stuck. This then converts the problem into an emergency. He needs to see his doctor/surgeon in order to get it repaired.

See a doctor: Your symptoms are hopefully indicative of a minor problem, but abdominal pain radiating to the back should be thoroughly evaluated by a physician.  There are several very severe conditions which need to be excluded from consideration, so do not neglect this.  Hope you get better soon.

i had an incisional hernia repair, lower right abdomen 4 weeks ago. i am experiencing pain over the area, nausea and diarrhea. a ct scan of the abdomen reveals no abnormalities or causes for the symptoms. is there anything i should do for this?

Hernia: It is reassuring the CT was normal. Have you had the surgeon examin the area since it is tender? The nause and diarrhea could be unrelated and due to a viral infection. If you are able to keep food down, stay hydrated and symptoms are improving then I would hold off on any further work up and see how things go.

i suspect i may have hernia in my lower right abdomen/waistline area. i have also had constipation/diarrhea and a bloated feeling on and off for the last week. are these symptoms of hernia?

Gastroenterologist: You should see a gastroenterologist, surgeon, or even your primary doctor.  On occasion bowel can become entraped or strangled in the hernia.  If you have symptoms of severe pain, discoloration at the site of the hernia, or develop blood in the stool, you should go to the er for evaluation.  The symptoms of constipation/diarrhea/bloating that you describe are less likely due to a simple hernia.

Yes: Yes you can, actually the only reason to do surgery is if the patient has discomfort or doesn't want it for aesthetic reasons, beside of course an strangulation or incarceration. Trying to strengthening the groups of muscles around the hernia may also help to restrain it.
