Acute large bruise: Time frame is extremely variable.  Rarity is unknown, not rare.  Almost no hematoma is permanent.

It can take awhile: Hematomas are collections of blood underneath the skin that lie within the soft tissue.  They can occur from trauma or happen spontaneously.  They body will slowly reabsorb them with time in general and it can be difficult to estimate how long that can take depending on the size, extent and location of the hematoma.

Blood and scan: Hepatoma can be detected by mri, ct scan and sometimes blood markers. Keep in mind the hepatoma may be too small to initially be seen by radiologic imaging. Many hepatomas secrete the blood marker, alpha-feto-protein (afp). An AFP greater than 250 is very diagnostic of hepatoma.

: We use the adjective acute, subacute and chronic to describe how fast or slow the symptoms and signs appear when the subdural hematoma happens after a head injury. That adjective term is not used to indicate the evolution of the subdural hematoma, i.e. subacute subdural hematoma does not evolve into a chronic subdural hematoma. Subdural hematoma: Need more information. How did you get subdural hematoma ? By fall, trauma, car accident or blunt skull injury? How large was this? Was evacuation done? Was it slow and small bleed subdural hematoma and resolved it self? In all cases you have to see your neurosurgeon periodically with possible  ct scan at intervals and discuss the recurrence rate in your specific case. Thanks.

Variable: Depending upon location and size, could cause a whole range of symptoms, from visual blurring, to double vision, and loss of portions or most of vision.  If you have concern of bleeding over your brain, consult with your primary care physician ASAP.

Don't get hurt!: A hematoma is a "bruise".  Usually caused by injury.  To avoid 100% of these, is impossible.  We all bang ourselves on something, we have all fallen, etc.  You can  
 avoid injuries by caution, seat belts, protective sports gear, good warm-ups before activity, avoiding intoxicants etc.   Sometimes unexplained bruising can occur due to medication effects or bleeding disorders. See a doc for this.

Swelling: Hematomas often look like a discrete buldge or swelling with a boarder ranging in size. It may have a blueish discoloration and may be warm to touch. Some internal hematomas, like subdural hematomas can not be visualized without imaging studies.

hepatoma, what will be the treatment?

Accepted Answer

Liver cancer: If possible,  curative resection will be the best to do. If not a good candidate for surgery- if localized- radiofrequency ablation, tace, gamma knife may be considered. In metastatic disease- when the cancer has spread beyond the liver for instance to the bone etc- palliative treatment with sorafenib should be considered. Discuss further with your oncologist.
