How can doctors diagnose a hepatoma?

Blood and scan: Hepatoma can be detected by mri, ct scan and sometimes blood markers. Keep in mind the hepatoma may be too small to initially be seen by radiologic imaging. Many hepatomas secrete the blood marker, alpha-feto-protein (afp). An AFP greater than 250 is very diagnostic of hepatoma.

CT Scan or MRI: Quadruple phase imaging protocol with either ct scan or MRI are good at diagnosing hepatoma. Elevated AFP in the blood supports the diagnosis.
