Swelling: Hematomas often look like a discrete buldge or swelling with a boarder ranging in size. It may have a blueish discoloration and may be warm to touch. Some internal hematomas, like subdural hematomas can not be visualized without imaging studies.

Hematoma: These can occur under a nail, too, and is the (usual) result of trauma and is the accumulation of blood from the trauma. In the case of a nail they can be red or bluish or purplish in color. If there is loss of sensation or pain it needs to be evacuated right away.
