Can swell, bleedi and cause pain or discomfort.
They do not, however, cause constipation. Constipation is more commonly a dietary problem or related to medications you may be taking. Try fiber pills like metamucil and occ. Laxatives when needed. 
For persistent constipation or a change in bowel habits, do see a doctor for an exam.

Hemmorhoids: A thrombosed hem will usually hurt for a few days then gradually resolve, so the worst pain is likely a week or less then slowly better over another couple of weeks. It would hurt a lot less and resolve a lot quicker if you let a surgeon treat it very soon after the clot forms. Then get more fiber in your diet to prevent recurrence.

Constipation causes us to stay on the toilet longer and push harder which can cause hemorrhoids to swell and become symptomatic. The best treatment is change your diet to include lots of fresh fruit and whole grains (fiber)  and possibly a stool softener. Visit your doctor for more suggestions.

Reverse that: Other way around -- hemorrhoids are exacerbated by constipation and the "pushing" necessary.  Foods high in fat tend to constipate you.  Foods high in fiber favor looser stools.  Fruits vegetable, whole grains are excellent sources of fiber.  Also, fiber only works if u are well hydrated.  Drink plenty  fluids to keep stools soft.  Don't sit for long periods on the toilet.

Please see your Dr.: There are a number of possible causes for rectal pain; the only way to determine the diagnosis is to see your doctor.  Your doctor will need to examine the outside of the anus and will likely need to do a rectal exam as well.  If your doctor does not find a cause, seeing a gastroenterologist (gi specialist) would be the next step.

If you have an urge&amp; can't move, work from below by inserting dulcolax rectal suppository or a fleets enema. For anal discomfort sit in hot water; apply ointment like anusol or preparation H.  See your MD if not improved.
