Sorry to hear you are feeling poorly. We take many factors into account when considering percutaneous drainage of a hematoma. Mechanism of injury, size, location, bleeding risk, infection risk, chronic blood thinner usage, deeper involvement of the joint itself, presence of neurologic symptoms, etc. I would recommend being evaluated by a doctor in person soon. Watch and wait: You may watch and wait. If the site becomes red, painful, develops a discharge or you get fever, see a doctor. If it has been more than 24 hours since the injury you may apply warm compress.

Probably so.: If it is only a hemotoma, but you've regained full range of motion, strength and function of your ankle, then it should be safe to resume soccer. You may consider taping your ankle for a couple of weeks, or wearing a lace up ankle support.

Reassurance!: Just by being with her. Elevate the ankle, warm or cold compresses, and if continues or becomes worse see the doctor again. Hematomas take "tincture of time" to resolve.

Hematoma: The swelling component should resolve within 7-10 days in uncomplicated cases, but discoloration from degraded blood products  takes longer to clear.

i had athroscopic knee surgery, acl recons. and meniscus 5days ago. ankle is now swollen and bruised, i believe hematoma. it is very painful. danger?

Not generally: It is hard to say that there is no danger here. Bruising and swelling around the ankle is possible after acl reconstruction, but is not the norm. It definitely reflects bleeding from somewhere. The acl tunnel in the front of the leg can be a source of bleeding. Bleeding that starts in the back of the knee is much less typical and warrants a visit to your surgeon, especially with the "very painful".

: Yes. Any location on the skin surface can develop a hematoma. It can also re-appear in the same location if conditions trigger it.
