Reassurance!: Just by being with her. Elevate the ankle, warm or cold compresses, and if continues or becomes worse see the doctor again. Hematomas take "tincture of time" to resolve.

Aside from asking Dr: Elevate, apply heat, anti-inflammatory medication such as alleve or Ibuprofen can be used if no contraindicated.

Ice and elevation : And mild compression are helpful in beginning. Anti-inflammatory medication may also help. After a few days when the hematoma essentially drys and clots, moist heat applied to area is helpful in breaking it up faster. Monitor area and consult with doctor to avoid further complications such as infection.

In the first: 24-48 hours ice will help limit the amount of swelling. After that hot compresses will help break up the blood composing the hematoma. Antiinflammatories can be helpful as well. The burning should go away when the sweeling and hematoma reduce. Make sure she does not wear restrictive shoegear that will press on the region.
