HealthTap Prime: Doctors represent a variety of different specialties. Currently it is set up to answer primary care type questions. Therefore these are questions you would ask your Internal Medicine Doctor, your Family Practice Doctor or Pediatrician.  Although some are other specialists it is not set up at this time for those type of questions.

PRIME and x-rays...: HealthTap PRIME began this summer (2014), and is a Primary Care service. A patient is connected with the first available doctor, and different doctors are online at various times. Patients don't select a doctor on PRIME. A consultation ends each time, and the doctor does not follow-up after the consultation. Thus, no lab nor imaging tests are ordered (otherwise, a follow-up visit would be needed).

Sometimes helpful: A patient with multiple health issues must have a real-life doctor who can do a full exam. PRIME is useful for primary care issues that may not need an exam. PRIME is also good for temporary help when one's real-life doctor is unavailable. If a patient is traveling out-of-state she might be able to get help from a PRIME doctor in her vacation state, to take care of a problem before returning home.

"Live" appointments: HealthTap PRIME doctors see and treat you, via smartphone, tablet, or laptop. They can see photos you upload into your FILES. You can also send images while in the middle of a live PRIME consultation. PRIME can be accessed from anywhere in the world, and patients just have a monthly subscription fee. (Doctors answering the regular, free questions are NOT able to see patients' images or photos.)

can i get a referral to a specialist from healthtap prime?

Accepted Answer

Sure: A patient on PRIME can get a referral to a particular doctor or a particular specialty, which means the PRIME doctor recommends that the patient go get evaluated by a certain doctor or specialty. Because PRIME is outside the commercial insurance system, there are no phone calls, faxes, or paperwork when the PRIME doctor refers a patient (insurers might treat a PRIME referral as a "self-referral").

Some.: A doctor licensed in your state can prescribe you medications, at their discretion of course.  But we cannot prescribe controlled substances under any circumstances.

Choosing doc: i believe that is an option, if you know your doctor is a Prime doc, or know of a particular doctor you want to consult. But for the most part, you would see whoever is available if you "call in" randomly
