i read that beer or liquor (example: vodka) are equally as good for your health (when having 1 drink per day) as wine.  is this really true?

Not all buzzes equal: 1.5 oz of liquor, 4-5 oz wine, 12 oz beer in US has generally same alcohol content. While controversial no alcohol is probably best but generally accepted 1-2/day max may be safe. Health benefits may vary, red wine generally accepted as better. In past showed greater association of cataracts with beer and hard liquor.  Bottom line occasionally one won't hurt. Don't save up for all 14 on weekend

i am an alcoholic. i drink 15 beers every day. would you consider this a health risk in withdrawal?

Not if gradually: Alcohol in unnatural amounts, such as in alcoholic drinks, is toxic to living tissues. An alcohol abuser can safely gradually stop drinking alcohol with the help of her doctor. If no doctor is available at all, she can slowly come off the alcohol... such as weaning down gradually over a one month period, to zero drinks, and then NEVER touch the stuff again. Stay away from people who are drinking.

No: Drinking a beer a day is not good for one's health, no matter if male or female, no matter how much one weighs, and no matter how tall she or he is. Alcohol is toxic to living tissue (which is why we can preserve specimens in alcohol in biology lab), so daily alcohol drinking is not good for humans, and also has some empty calories. That said, many people in all countries do enjoy one drink a day.

35 yr old male. i really only drink water(probably 1 gsllon or more a day) and lite beer (4-5 a day) no cafeene! is this little alcohol bad for health?

Alcohol: Consistently drinking 4-5 beers a day is quite a lot.  It indicates you're using this habitually, and could be at least psychologically dependent on the alcohol.  With this amount, you could also have some physical withdrawal effects if stopping as well.  You might want to see your physician for a general health evaluation, and let him/her know you're concerned about your beer intake (if you are).

Depends on who you: read or talk to. Guinness advertises that it is "good for you," but there is not much evidence that beer is different from wine or distilled spirits. One drink per day (up to 2 max in men, but only 1 in women and men&gt;60) can raise HDL cholesterol (the good cholesterol). However, more than 2 drinks/day begins to increase blood pressure and cause alcohol-related organ toxicities and dependency.

YES: Yes it is. If you are not addicted to the alcohol you may be habituated. I would see my md and try to cut back the alcohol or seek help to do so.

i went to the doctor the other day.i've been having bloody stools, he said i have hemorroids..is this from too much beer? its been 4 days now and i'm still seeing blood in the toilet only when i poop..i'm 37 years old and in fairly good health..i do drink

Hemorrhoids : Hemorrhoids in men are usually caused by constipation and straining while having a bowel movement. I do not believe beer will cause hemorrhoids, however beer can cause gastritis or an ulcer which could result in blood in your stool. You should request to see a gastroenterologist for a possible colonoscopy and endoscopy to make sure nothing more serious than hemorrhoids are the cause of your bleeding. Also make sure you are screened for anemia.

NO more than 16 oz: Justin - see my answer to your other question. There can be severe nutritional deficiencies, especially severe anemia, with that amount of milk intake. 16 ounces of milk a day maximum and the rest of his fluid intake should be water only! No giving juices, Kool-Aid, smoothies  - nothing but water!

Depends: The safe drinking limit in men ages 21-59 is no more than 2 standard drinks per day (or 2 12-oz. bottle of beers), and in women (and men over 60) no more than 1 standard drink per day.  Also never more than 3 drinks on one occasion for women, or 4 drinks for men, and no more than 7 standard drinks/week in women and men over 60, and 14 drinks/week in younger men. This increases good cholesterol-HDL
