Remember, it took 9 months to put on- the weight is not going to come off overnight.  Take compliments by others with a smile and a thanks and let negative remarks slide.

The best one is...: ...Estrogen, of course. It has the highest chance of working. The problem is that it has potential side effects from the cancer and cardiovascular standpoint and is not for everybody. There are other alternatives like antidepressants, soy-based products, or even hypnotherapy, all with varying degree of success.  Patients in this situation should talk with their gyn about this. : Nausea is a fairly common side effect with ciprofloxacin and other similar antibiotics (the fluoroquinolones). Taking it with food can help.

Lean protein : This might be a great time to develop a taste for lean protein.  A post-workout snack with about 20 gm or protein, in whatever form, is plenty. Whatever's handy, lean is best (not much grease), and perhaps you can chase it down with a newly-acquired enhanced appreciation for fresh fruit. Cheers.

How about 1 to 2 lbs: Per week? To lose weight insure that calories burned &gt; calories consumed. Drink at least 8  - 8 oz glasses of water per day.  Aim for at least 5 servings of vegetables & 4 servings of fruit per day. Use whole grain when possible. Avoid sodas, alcohol & junk carbohydrates. Get in a good mix of aerobic & weight lifting exercises.

7 years post whipple and am experiencing pain on my right side. should i be concerned?

Whether or not the: pain is related in any way to the Whipple's procedure, significant and/or persistent pain shouldn't be ignored. If possible, you should start with a follow up visit with your surgeon who is the best person to determine if you're experiencing late complications of the Whipple or not.  Best wishes.  Dr. anne
