ive had tonsillitis for 5 days now my doctor has given me penacillin but now im coughing up white hard lumps of phlegm with blood spots in it??

Tonsils: If you have been taking the penicillin for 5 days and are getting worse, I would do two things. First, get the doc to change the Rx to an antibiotic in a different family because you may have a 'resistant' bacterial strain. I would switch to erythromycin 10mg/kg x 3 doses/day. Second, see an ENT doc. Your smoking puts you at risk for something far worse, AND, you probably need your tonsils out

Hemoptysis: Hemoptysis (http://www.Mayoclinic.Com/health/coughing-up-blood/my01064) is common ; usually benign if small volumes in a non-smoker. But it's always a good idea to go see your family doc for an evaluation as there are too many causes to review ; consider w/more information ; examination.

Often associated with bronchitis or inflammation, however hirmoptysis or coughing blood should be evaluated by your physician in either case.

This could be bacterial, or viral, and the only way to determine which is with a culture taken directly from throat, or saliva.  See a dr. Soon or it may spread or worsen.
