Happiness comes from  good friends, wonderful companions, good health, comfortable economic circumstances and structuring your life to minimize pain.  Some also find happiness by helping others and charitable works.  Spiritual things are also helpful.

4 Choices: You're dealt a certain constitutional or genetic hand in life.  But what you do with what you've been given is up to you.  I actually studied this, and found these choices in common with self described happy people
1. A purpose to fulfill (to give life meaning)
2.  Healthy habits (health is wealth)
3.  Enough energy (to be proactive not reactive)
4.  Positive relationships (low drama, high support.

Consistent: Exercise, kill your tv, get active friends, quit drinking, challenge yourself, set goals, face your fears, take calculated risks.

Maybe: It's impossible to study, since people who take good care of themselves generally (good health habits) also do the things that promote happiness (organization, time management, work ethic, learn career and people skills). Laughter and positivity: "Laughter is the best medicine!"  Laughing is a positive emotion and therefore induces "good" chemicals.  Positivity helps the body heal faster, it helps rev up the immune system, and it burns off negative chemicals.  It is certainly something the doctor would advise you to do!

Same as before: Keep involved in the activities that contributed to your happiness when you were younger. Make a point of getting enough pleasure, engagement, and meaning in your life. Also, make connections with others, and say "yes" to all social activities that you think you might enjoy. Count your blessings or make a list of three things you appreciate at least once a week.

Many things: Liking yourself, getting enough rest and sleep, feeling appreciated, being physically active, being part of a community, having close friends, feeling needed, having a sense of purpose, and much more.

Happiness may be less important than meaning and purpose in life. Some say that happiness is getting and meaning and purpose is giving. Don't chase happiness but do look for satisfaction in life.
