Depends: That depends on the extend of the crack.  As long as we can cover the crack with a crown and still have favorable crown-root ratio then the tooth can be saved.  If the crack extends all the way down the root then the tooth needs to be extracted.  The crack will allow leakage and compromise the seal. Talk to your dentist or endodontist.

i had a root canal that is now infected.  i now have a  thrombus on the interna l jugular vein. ultra sound was done but , doctors are unsure ?

Lemierre's: There is a condition known as lemierre's disease in which a retrotonsillar abscess can extend into the bloodstream and produce thrombotic lesions of the jugular veins along with other significant problems.  I cannot tell whether this is true in your case, but woudl see an ENT doctor and get diagnosed.  There may be other issues.

badly infected tooth had failed root canal & apicoectomy had it pulled tues novacaine,  on doxy since sat, feeling nauseous and dizzy since last night?

Dizzy: Make sure to hydrate (drink to replenish your electrolytes ie; gaterade, powerade) you could be dehydrated. Take the medications with food and drinking alot., in your case don't wait see a physician  immediately to rule out other possibilities.

i had a bad abscess last april, it was so infected i was on medicine until august and then finally my root canal started which was a combination of 3 more visits to complete it.  my tooth still is sore on and off and a bad oder comes from it.  i don't fee

In : In sorry to hear about such a longstanding problem.

Without a physical exam with radiographs, i cannot tell what is happening with that tooth. But i can tell you that four months to heal up an infection is quite a long time. The root canal was completed, and you now need a crown. So far, everything sounds routine.

That your tooth is still sore concerns me the most. It shouldn't be so sore seven months after the root canal. The odor could be from food and bacteria getting caught in the unrestored tooth.

If you feel uncomfortable with the dentist who has treated you, find another dentist from a trusted recommendation  and get a second opinion on if this tooth is even restorable.

tooth is infected & needs root canal.  soonest appointment they have is 2 weeks away so they put me on amoxicillin.  ive been on it 3 times a day for 4 days now.  tooth is hurting worse today & my cheek looks slightly swollen.  what do i do?

: You have a bad infection.  There is a simple surgical principle which should guide you.  "Never let the sun go down on undrained puss!"
Sometimes you just need to take the next step and call a different dentist who can help you right away.  Even though it may cost more you will be better off i the long run. Puss must be drained now!

how long till i can swim after tooth removal under general with exposed gum?
i had a root canal tooth that fractured then infected and the remaining tooth had to be surgically removed. the cavity is filled with calcium granules and stitched up now.

Needs to heal: You appear to have had an extraction with a bone graft. Follow your dentist's post operative instructions. It usually take a wound like that a week or two to heal.

: I'm going to suggest that you follow the advice of your dentist and/or oral surgeon. But as a rule of thumb you'll need to put yourself in the best possible healing condition. Both nicotine and alcohol will impede the bone graft and implant integration/healing process, so you'll need to abstain. As they say no pain, no gain.

i am hiv +, undetect, cd4 865, i also have genital herpes but take valtrex for it. i had a root canal done and developed sinus infect, bronchitis. taking 1 week now bactrim, (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) clyndamicyn, poor recovery.

Please see your Dr.: You should be examined by your infectious disease doctor as soon as possible to see if something is going on with your immune system and possibly to repeat lab work for t cell counts.
