OTC: Take some otc pain medication such as advil, motrin, aleve (naproxen) or what you would normally take for a headache. Avoid cold, hot and sweets if any of those stimuli elicit discomfort. Depending upon the nature of the dental problem, topical anesthetics such as orajel may or may not help. Nothing else you can do until your appointment. Perhaps move your appointment up?

Tablet?: I would recommend that you see a dentist for relief rather than than using a pain killing tablet. It will work better and last longer. Having said that, if necessary, take an OTC tablet that you would normally take for a headache. Then get an appointment with a dentist for diagnosis and treatment.

Have dentist evaluat: Perhaps you have a sore on the gum.  Have the dentist evaluate it.  Something may have irritated the gum, even a cold or virus may have irritated the gum.

i had 2 rct 4wks ago & still having pain. nothing seen on cbct or 2d xray. dentist said its gum pain mimicing the pain. is that possible on rc teeth?

Possible: Is the pain getting better, worse, or staying the same over time? Pain when you bite down, throbbing pain when you lie down, or pain all the time? Do meds like Tylenol alleviate the pain? If the tooth was really infected it can take quite some time for the bone to heal (even up to 6 months). If the pain is the same or getting worse, it's best to ge a second opinion from an endodontist.

: Obviously not sensitive to hot/cold since the tooth had root canal therapy. If you have periodontal pocketing and the crown lengthening procedure alleviates the food/bacterial trap you should see relief. Very slight chance of a fracture since not sensitive to pressure, but you never know. If the tooth had 50% bone loss or more, consider an implant root replacement.

Evaluation: There are many causes for post treatment extraction pain to list here. One common problem is bone infection or dry socket. Please see your treating dentist for any problems after oral surgery.

2 separate problems: 1. Neck and lower head pain. See your PCP.
2. Pain and swelling following dental extraction is usually at its worst 24 – 48 hours after surgery, after that it should subside more and more every day and after 7 days stop. Three month following surgery it's not OK. Time to call your dentist and to check the gum pain. Maybe another tooth needs attention?
