Find insurance?: Not a med answer, but is there a way you can get insurance? Is there a medicaid program? Does your county offer health assistance, or your hospital have a free clinic (many do). Your best bet for insurance is a large employer; starbucks offers insurance for part time workers.  If it is true that no insurance means no help, then you need to find a way to get insurance.

Depends: There is usually left over folds of skin after dramatic weight loss.  Surprisingly, a lot of excess skin may disappear with the weight.  Many people choose to undergo plastic surgery to remove extra skin and even get tummy tucks (witch hazel) and breast lifts after they reach and maintain their goal weight.  You wouldn't have to do anything with the extra skin if you didn't want to.

how can i tighten up loose skin? i had gastric bypass surgery last year and lost 130 pounds. i have lots of loose skin and have not been able to get rid of it. any ideas short of surgery to remove it? exercising has not helped.

Congratulations : Congratulations on your weight loss. There is absolutely no way to address your loose skin without an abdominoplasty surgery (tummy tuck). Exercise may improve muscle tone, but won't do anything for the skin. Anyone who proposes anything else for your degree of weight loss is just stealing your money.

Congratulations : Congratulations on your massive weight loss. After bariatric surgery, the currently recommended waiting period before having a lower body lift, or other body contouring procedures, is one year. This allows your body to adjust to it's new physiology. At a year your weight will be more stable, and your GI tract will be better adapted to absorbing the nutrients needed to heal after surgery. Waiting one year will decrease the risk of complications and aesthetically improve your results.

It is not too early to see a board certified plastic surgeon and explore your options. This can help you feel more comfortable when it comes time for surgery, and prepare you for an expedited recovery. More information is available online here:

Yes, even safer: Pregnancy is perfectly safe after gastric bypass. In fact, many obese women have trouble getting pregnant until gastric bypass. Fertility improves almost immediately. Bypass and band: Gastric bypass is the gold standard, been around for 50yrs, results in the greatest weight loss, highest cure rates for diabetes, hypertension, etc, but has a slightly higher risk. It is an excellent operation and accounts for the majority of weight loss operations done in the us. It is safe if done by a surgeon who has done thousands of cases.
