Processed food - meh: Doubtful if fresh cut. Processed food is all about additives and salt. Both potatoes and sweets have nutrients. Balanced diet is key. Don't make a habit of all brown meals.

No nutritional info: There is no signficant nutritional value in drinking alcohol--only empty calories. Nutritional labels are designed to help people make informed food choices. Be smart, eat healthy, and limit alcohol consumption (see earlier healthtap responses regarding responsible alcohol ingestion).

: Unlikely that green tea will directly cause weight loss.  However if you take green tea when you might otherwise have reached for something caloric, that might help lower your weight.

Non-fried foods: Restaurant foods are often not made to be healthy but are made to taste good so customers will return.  That means restaurant foods will have more oil, more salt, or more sugar than home-made foods.  Grilled chicken breast is good, but usually the menu item is fried chicken strips.  Spaghetti with red sauce is ok, unless the sauce is too oily.  A hamburger without mayo; with steamed veggies is ok.

Yes: Either from lack of social distancing or from contaminated surfaces.

Accepted Answer

Home meals healthy: Meals prepared properly at home are probably the most healthy you can regulate how much salt, fats and other ingredients go into your meals.  You also choose the ways they are prepared and the proportion sides you want. So it would be best if possible to prepare your own meals at home.

A protein and fiber: A protein relatively void of saturated fat such as fish or lean meat, along with a high fiber vegetable is a fairly healthy combination for a meal. The protein slows gastric emptying making you feel full longer and the fibrous vegetable pushes the nutrients to the lower small intestine releasing other hormones that fills you up and decreases the absorption of bad fats.

is it ok to take little kids to ethnic restaurants with spicey foods?

Accepted Answer

Yes: Yes, why not? Educate them.  Introduce them to new cultures and foods.  If spiciness is a concern, ask the waiter to make it mild for the kids.  I'm not sure what you're really asking.

why were alfalfa sprouts yanked from a lot of markets and restaurants? i loved them.

Contamination: There have been problems with  salmonella and listeria food poisoning, unfortunately.  The same moist, warm conditions you need to grow sprouts can be similarly luscious for bacteria to grow too.  You can grow your own at home, but be very careful to keep things clean . .

any suggestions for avoiding sodium in restaurants, other than "hold the salt & seasoning"?

Accepted Answer

Try this: You will generally be okay if you avoid adding any extra salt when you eat out. And look for naturally lower sodium containing foods on the menu....At home, you can use the low sodium cooking recipes..And throw away the salt shakers....You get about 6 times the salt you need in your food without adding any..
