im a 49 year old male. my left elbow seems swollen and like a spongue. there is no pain associated with it. no injuries noted. i did play a round of golf about 2 weeks ago and the following day i noticed the condition. im am currently on no medications ot

There : There is something called called "olecranon bursitis" which is typically a painless swelling over the elbow.  The "bursa" is like a fluid-filled sac over our joints, but usually there is not much fluid in it.  If the bursa gets irritated, it can swell with fluid.  You can try anti-inflammatories like Ibuprofen if you can tolerate that type of medication (and don't have a history of ulcers or bleeding problems), and place an ace wrap or compression dressing on the area.    Sometimes, the fluid in the bursa can get infected, and you would need to be seen immediately if you have redness, pain, red streaks from the area, or fever.  I have had patients try to drain the fluid on their own, and that can lead to infection.

Analyze your swing: Have someone who knows what they are doing analyze your swing with the various clubs.  Usually you can figure out where in your swing you are putting stress on your elbow and then you can figure a way to adjust your swing.

Accepted Answer

Yes: Most patients return to normal function, no pain. 90% improve without surgery using nsaids, tennis elbow strap, ot, cortisone injections.  Only 10% require surgery.  If diagnosis correct, 90% of surgical results good/excellent.

Opposite of: Tennis elbow .Inflamed soft tissue around the epicondyle (  inside/golfers, outside/tennis).One needs to stop the activity that is causing the inflammation in the first place .This likely involves some mechanical adjustment in form.Give it time to heal...No more pain.

Ruptured Bursa: Most Likely Ruptured Bursa or Bursitis.
Use Ice compression, and see your Doctor if you need pain medications or even antibiotics. Sometimes it may require drainage. Most patients recover  without any complications.

Tennis elbow: Tennis elbow or lateral epicondylitis is the most common cause of pain on the outside of your elbow. Golfer's elbow pain is on the inside of your elbow. Both conditions are due to chronic tendinopathy. Treatment is with rest, physical therapy, and Nitric Oxide patches. Bursa: This is most likely a painless bursitis of the elbow with fluid collection. Lack of redness,pain or tenderness would rule out infection or gout. These may recede or remain the same. Your physician or an orthopedic surgeon can advise you best.

a male has a golf size lump on arm near elbow. can it be a hernia?

Not a hernia: A mass near the elbow may be a lipoma ( benign fat tumor) , a cyst ( benign skin lesion), or rarely an enlarged lymph node, or other rare tumors.  A hernia can only occur from a hollow body cavity, the chest or abdomen.

R/o muscle rupture: Did you feel a pop? Was it after hitting a ball? Bruising on back of arm is triceps injury, on the front can be an injury to the biceps tendon. Should be checked.

Get X-ray: Thus may be a fracture hematoma and require external or operative fixation.
