it depends on the clinical exam and as to what kind of calcifications and how many.The decision is based on all these factors.

Yes: Breast self exams are useful, especially with lumpy breasts.  Ultrasound may demonstrate cysts which may help rule out a solid mass.

Depends: You should start with your doctor's exam.  If you have lumps, and if you have any family history of breast cancer, let your doctor know.  You may need both a mammogram and ultrasound.  Please do not take chances.

: No absolute indication for mammogram if your axillary (armpit) lymph node's pain and enlargement are reactive, especially they got smaller after the acute phase.

: Yes, if the lesion is consistent with an abscess which is usually acute onset, localized tenderness and swelling with or without constitutional symptoms such as fever, fatigue, etc. However, inflammatory breast will be a different issue and biopsy is indeed indicated. Good luck.

Risk: Pain needs to be addressed. Family history is important but do not necessarily indicate you inherited risk. You may consider genetic testing for BRCA especially if any other direct family members has Breast CA

Ultrasound: Ultrasound is a simple test to start with. It can evaluate for a cyst or solid nodule. Might still need a mammogram though, if the ultrasound is inconclusive. Could also see a breast specialist doctor for their opinion too. Best thing is to be sure with breast nodules.

Know history: It is important to find out the ages of family members who have breast cancer.  If it is a mother, sister or grandmother who was diagnosed before age 50, then you may need to start 10 years prior (i.e. If mom was 42, then start at 32). It also important to have a risk assessment and find out if there is any brca mutation in the family.

i had a breast lump checked using ultrasound and told results said unremarkable but get a baseline mammogram.  i did this back in may.  i didn't hear back,  so i  figured everything fine.  all summer i noticed left breast swollen more than right.  end of

Need to : Re-evaluate. Call your doctor and discuss your concern. Always early intervention , better prognosis . Does not hurt to get it checked out again.
