i have been using a ppi for over 20 years for gerd. it is no longer working as i have constant heartburn and burning and cramping in my stomach. i'm afraid that using the medication has caused low stomach acid and has weakened my les. ?

Legitimate worries: We are learning more and more about PPI’s and  their long term undesired side effects. Otherwise great drugs that changed forever the natural history of peptic ulcer disease. In your case, time to get together with your gastroenterologist for an upper endoscopy and further discussion about options based on findings. If overweight, losing weight remains critical.

Anti H+ pills: Gerd is from reflex passage of  acid from the stomach into the esophagus.  It is a long term risk for damage to the lower esophagus including cancer.  You can modify the diet, use  secretory inhibitors like omeprazole, and use short term antiacids like rolaids and tums (calcium carbonate).  Some are helped by elevating the head of the bed.  Discuss with your doctor.

Not true!: You will get stronger, if you exercise 3 times a week at least. If you do less, then you won't get stronger and you never get used to it.  Whoever said exercise makes you weaker, is not the person you need to talk to for any factual, well-informed advice.  That friend probably cannot be trusted to give accurate information about anything.

Shoulder operation: The modifiedweaver dunn operation is done to correct a dislocated AC (acromioclavicular) joint. In a AC joint separation the coracoclavicular ligament is torn and the clavicle tends to pop up.  The w-d operation involves transferring the acromioclavicular ligament from the acromion (in front of the shoulder) down to the coracoid (below the clavicle) to pull the clavicle down and keep it in place.

Not directly: Typically low body fat is associated w/athletes &amp; body builders, who aren't usually known for being weak. However, in an attempt to make a weight class or compete, purposeful loss of body water eg diuresis, can make you feel weak, especially if done to excess. If you're still worried about you feel weak, go see your Family Doc for evaluation.
