is it possible to overcome a mood disorder with a sufficiently strong frontal lobe, i.e. from reading and thinking?

Accepted Answer

Many variables here: If the mood disorder is mild to moderate & the reading matter and thinking is interesting and involving but not disturbing or provocative you may have a good idea here. However, if severe and if disturbing, it could make matters worse. Some wise, moderate folk may be able to evaluate themselves but even they might benefit from professional guidance - and, think wholistically, beyond frontal lobe.

Not uncommonly: Small percentage of frontotemporal dementia cases are indeed hereditary, and classically a tau gene on Chromosome 17, but 4 other forms are known.  Would assess known genetics at 15-20% of cases at this point, but would state that it is reasonable that sporadic cases may also wind up some day as hereditary events.

i had a 3cm adeno in left frontal lobe=craniotomy 1mo ago.  no other disease known. i sleep a lot.  how long is recovery? 69 and otherwise healthy.

Accepted Answer

Sleep Craniotomy: Most people will return to normal sleep levels in 6-8 weeks after a craniotomy. You may also have had an anticonvulsant prescribed to prevent seizures. This class of medication will sedate or increase sleep requirements. Most people will adjust to medication in 6-8 weeks also. Try to increase aerobic exercise to improve sleep patterns as well as improve stamina.

The only: problem I can think of is a SIEZURE and your treating physician may wish to place you on anti-siezure medication to PREVENT one...discuss with your treatng Neurologist/PCP

does bipolar 2 and borderline personality disorder causes abnormality in the frontal lobe? and if so how does it cause abnormality? my short term memory is pretty bad. is there anything i can do?

: Yes get checked by a psychiatrist who, after investigation will determine the diagnosis, possible cause and management. Dont forget to ask questions personality disorders do not cause organic changes in the brain. It is the other way around. Good luck

Evaluation: A neurologist will evaluate the historical aspects of the issue at hand, perform a detailed examination, and formulate a diagnostic plan based on the localization of any symptoms and considerations of any potential pathology which may be causing problems.  Subsequently, there will be a determination of a treatment plan based on the findings.

can a mental illness like bipolar 2 disorder cause abdominality in the frontal lobe of the brain? i having short term memory loss?

Accepted Answer

: There has been inconsistent data suggesting abnormal functioning in the orbitofrontal region of the brain, but clinical correlation is often lacking.  Problems with processing speed seem most often present.  Emotional disorders can cause difficulty with focus and concentration, but NOT true short-term memory loss, which involves the temporal lobe.  Can sort out with neuropsych. testing.

i am 80, i have a meningitis in the frontal lobe of my brain. it was found with an mri in 2013. my test results say i have severe chronic small vessel disease of the brain. my doctor has not mentioned it. is this something to worry about?

: Confusing question. No meningitis persists 9 years:  do you maybe mean meningioma (a benign brain tumor)? That abnormality is entirely different than "small vessel disease". It usually is unwise for patient who are not health professionals themselves to try to interpret the findings of their tests without doctor advice, especially complex ones like MRI. Discuss with your doctor. Good luck.

they found an abnormality in the frontal lobe of my brain and ive been noticing that my short term memory problems. what could the abnormality be. could it be from being bipolar 2 or borderline personality disorder?

: Your psychiatric disorders do not cause structural anatomic anomalies in any area of the brain, and your short-term memory issues would not be associated with "an abnormality in the frontal lobe". i have double vision in one eye. forgetfulness. mri states minimal small vessel ischemic change or demyelinating disease in frontal lobe white matter. pcp says start of ms. neurologist appt next week. is there  any other things it might be?

Diplopia: If you're sure that the double vision is in one eye only  the cause is usually astigmatism. This type of unioccular diplopia is only noticeable while looking through the one eye and has nothing to do with eye muscle movement.
