Is it possible to overcome a mood disorder with a sufficiently strong frontal lobe, i.e. from reading and thinking?

Many variables here: If the mood disorder is mild to moderate & the reading matter and thinking is interesting and involving but not disturbing or provocative you may have a good idea here. However, if severe and if disturbing, it could make matters worse. Some wise, moderate folk may be able to evaluate themselves but even they might benefit from professional guidance - and, think wholistically, beyond frontal lobe.

No: Frontal lobe function changes in depression. Some studies have shown increased activity in the right frontal lobe in response to negative moods, with decreased activity in the left. By themselves, reading and thinking will not overcome these changes. Some focused cognitive therapies can help, though, by discovering & countering hidden beliefs (cognitions) that lead to depressive emotions.
