Maybe: What kind of hernia surgery, groin, ventral, hiatal? Frequent urination early after surgery would not be unusual. Call your surgeon to see what they recommend.

Contact: Your surgeon. I do not know what type of hernia surgery you had. Rarely a urinary catheter is needed temporarily after surgery. See your surgeon who would have much more detailed information.

Accepted Answer

: Inguinal hernia repair should not affect the voiding (no anatomy relationship between the hernia and urinary system). However, if general anesthesia was used, some men may have urinary retention post op but it is a very rare complication with the current anesthetic method.

Doesn't sound too: bad,  1/4 cup every hour equals 12 cups in 24 hours.  That is more than most normal people urinate.  So you could be okay.  Unless  you are drinking three times that amount of fluid a day.

got urine retention after inguinal hernia surgery. i have been asked three times to not urinate for 2 hours before uroflowmetry test. i had 824 ml in my bladder before the test and i could only evacuate 500 ml. can these tests damage bladder/kidneys?

: No the tests do not damage Kidneys or bladder. If you had no problems voiding before surgery your normal urination should return 4-6 weeks after surgery.

why when urinating i feel it in my belly button and lower groin above sexual organ? ive had hernia surgery in my belly button 14 years ago. and a ct scan while in er recently didnt show anything with that about my hernia, little bulge on right side?

: I think you're experiencing sensations from muscles voluntarily contracting as you urinate. Unless you're noting bulging in the navel or tenderness of those muscles,I doubt you have a serious cause of that discomfort. An abdominal surgeon can examine &amp; advise you as well as check your ?groin bulge.

Might have urinary: retention.  Contact his surgeon for advice before his bladder becomes so distended that he cannot void.

Here are some...: Without a direct look, it's hard to come up with correct  opinion.  Clinically, what you described may represent fungal skin infection. Regarding the smell of urine, it's may reflect the degree of urine concentration and what you  consumed.  Genera speaking, accept personal unique  urine smell as long as urinalysis is normal. Further? Seek pro-evaluation and counseling timely.

i had open hernia surgery a week and a half ago, i'm only urinating twice a day even though i'm drinking plenty of fluids and i have only had two bm's since i came home from the hospital. is this normal?

Family practice: Since you had an open hernia repair vs a laparoscopic procedure it will take you awhile to fully recover. You probably haven't  been very active. Keep yourself hydrated and as your oral intake improves it should get back to normal. But call your dr and let him know what's going on.
