See Pediatrician: It's best to have your pediatrician take a look at it. The discharge may need to be swabbed and sent for culture as at 5 weeks it is still possible to have a conjunctivitis  from his trip through the birth canal.  The other likely diagnosis is a plugged/blocked tear duct (dacryostenosis) which your pediatrician will be able to help guide you on how to care for that condition.

what otc medication can i use to reduce the inflammation and pain?

Sounds like: "Blepharitis" an infection of the eyelid! This usually requires an antibiotic locally (sometimes systemically) (thus requires an in person visit to an eye professional. However sometimes soaking your eye in an  eyecup 
(common pharmacy item) three to four times per day for five minutes at a time with plain pure warm water may relieve the discomfort

i have a hemi retinol occlusion.  i do not want to have injections.  can i take any medication for it.  can the eye repair itself?

Accepted Answer

Several things:: There is no medication for hemiretinal occlusion (stroke).  The spontaneous recovery is at the edges of the damaged area but the central area where the blood supply was cut off will loss function.  Injections are to prevent abnormal vessels from growing which can threaten the rest of the retina.  Before the injections there was no realistic treatment.  It is your choice to decline them or not.

Yes: Consult with your retinal specialist to discuss Jetrea™ (Ocriplasmin) which has been approved for vitreo macular adhesion(VMA) or similar vitreo macular traction syndrome(VMT). Only your specialist would be able to tell you if your epiretinal membrane is needing treatment and which treatment will yield the best results. Good luck.

2 things: Cold packs (like a cold washcloth held on the affected area and/or makeup are going to be your best recourse.  Better yet, find out why she has eyes like that and solve that problem!

i recently learned that people have died after ingesting the eye drop medication visine. why is this? and out of morbid curiosity, how much would someone need to actually take since those bottles dont even look that big?

: Tetrahydrozoline, the main ingredient of Visine, can be deadly if the solution is swallowed even the bottle is small. A typical bottle of Visine eye drops contains anywhere from 15 to 30 milliliters of solution. Depending on the body mass, drinking that small bottler can be lethal.

will blood thinning medication cause bleeding behind the eye?

Anticoagulation eye: Anticoagulation medications like Aspirin and coumadin, (warfarin) will not cause bleeding .  However, if bleeding is started for instance from trauma, blood dyscrasias, or blood vessel anomalies, then bleeding from these sources can be prolonged and exaggerated.  In most cases, the blood thinner should be stopped while the cause of bleeding is addressed.

Accepted Answer

See a doctor: Appears to have an infection but cannot assess whether topical antibiotics such as mupirocin or triple antibiotic ointment would be enough. Avoid the risk by visiting a doc for best treatment.

when you change a glaucoma medication because of side effects, how long after you start the new medication should you have the eye pressure checked.

2 weeks: It takes 2 weeks for the old medicine to be completely out of the system and for the new medication to stabelize the pressure.
