See Pediatrician: It's best to have your pediatrician take a look at it. The discharge may need to be swabbed and sent for culture as at 5 weeks it is still possible to have a conjunctivitis from his trip through the birth canal. The other likely diagnosis is a plugged/blocked tear duct (dacryostenosis) which your pediatrician will be able to help guide you on how to care for that condition.
