Trigger finger: This occurs when there is swelling of the tendon of the muscle that moves the finger.  This snags in the pulley through which the tendon runs and can prevent with some pain, the full motion.  By elevating the limb, you can reduce the swelling and get the area to move through the pulley.  Of course if the locking of the forefingers is with a partner - then this is probably love.

Stretched finger: get X-ray done if X-ray is fine then physic therapy will help as it will be a ligament injury. If that does not help then see a hand surgeon for 2 nd opinion.

Finger numbness: may be from carpal tunnel/ ulnar compression. Repetitive work? , like computer all day? Ergonomically arrange the computer- monitor eye level , hand piano style on keyboard ,elbows  90 degrees. Break every 45 minutes, shake out hands. Consider night splints, consider a trial of motrin/aleve ,if not allergic and possible steroids. Check TSH, DM,   rarely MS,neck DJD f/u w/ doc/urgent care

what's the best way to heal a cut between thumb and forefinger after stitches are removed?

Healing a cut: Sometimes, they use steristrips after sutures, sometimes  I put  desitin (zinc oxide diaper cream) which has antibacterial  and growth properties due to zinc, on it and cover with gauze ( not bandaids they keep moisture in and promote infection). If near  a joint  (which it is ) try not to move so ask/buy  a small splint. If red, pus, pain it is infected and go back to doctor.

Pain: she might have either a ganglion or carpal tunnel.
I would go to a hand specialist or your primary care physician.  An x-ray may help to diagnose the cause

Hard to do: The thumb usually ends close to where the finger begins. A simple wrap around just slips off the thumb when you sweat.  You can purchase or construct a thumb extender and then tape that to the thumb and index finger. Alternatively you can just tape both to the side of your face, but that tends to be rather cumbersome.

Hand pain: This could be trauma, arthritis, pressure effects from laying on the hand, possible infection. If you are concerned then see the doctor.

Neck pain: A herniated disc in the neck can cause numbness in the finger and dizziness (imbalance). It is important to obtain an MRI of the neck to determine the extent of the nerve and/or spinal cord compression. I recommend seeing a neurosurgeon or spine specialist to evaluate and treat the symptoms.

i have a water blister on my forefinger from a burn. should i break the blister. i have diabetes?

Accepted Answer

Don't break blister: It is always better to leave a blister intact. Once you open it then there is a way for infection to get into the damaged skin underneath. This is especially important in diabetics. I suggest leaving the blister intact and putting a bandage over it. In a few days it will probably open on its own but by that time then skin underneath will have had some time to heal up.
